Queens Cup – Day 10

John Paul Clarkin

Segavas 15 – 11 Polo Stud Schockemohle (rec 4 goals)

The excessive heat in the UK – temperatures hit 36 degrees Celsius late this afternoon – saw the only Cartier Queen’s Cup game of the day move to an earlier time of 11am. The heat though did not seem to affect Segavas – Luke Wiles, Mark Tomlinson, Joaquin Pittaluga and John Paul Clarkin. They powered past Polo Stud Schockemohle to win this game 15-11 and register their first win of the tournament. This team had impressed on their debut, going down by only a goal to Park Place and then registered just a two-goal deficit to the top seeded Next Generation. So it was only a matter of time before they struck victory. The 18-goal Polo Stud Schockemohle team, who are also looking for their first tournament win, kept Segavas in check in the first half, thanks to their four-goal handicap advantage. Pittaluga and Wiles were not deterred though and fired through 11 goals between them during these six chukkas. Add in Tomlinson’s three, plus one from Clarkin and Segavas were very much  in the driving seat. They took the lead in the fourth and continued to dominate the remaining chukkas, which were played on The Queen’s Ground at Guards Polo Club. Segavas’s final match is a crucial contest against Monterosso Polo Team on Tuesday, with both teams searching for that all important second win to give them third place in League Two and a guaranteed quarter-final match.
