Segavas Capture First Victory in Cartier Queen’s Cup

A match-up between two teams searching for their first win in the 2020 Cartier Queen’s Cup resulted in Segavas emerging victorious, defeating Polo Stud Schockemohle 15-11 on the Queen’s Ground at Guards Polo Club.

Managing at least three shot attempts in every chukka, Segavas controlled possession from the opening play of the game to outshoot Polo Stud Schockemohle 25-10. Six goals from Joaquin Pittaluga along with an impressive five goals from Luke Wiles led the Segavas attack, while Polo Stud Schockemhole struggled to generate enough scoring chances to keep pace in the game. Three of Polo Stud Schockemohle’s five field goals came from Juan Gris Zavaleta, but a determined Segavas team outscored them 6-1 in the second half to capture the victory.

Utilizing an 18-goal line-up, Polo Stud Schockemohle began the match with a four-goal advantage on the scoreboard, but after going scoreless in the first seven minutes, the score was 4-4 as Segavas kept the ball in the attacking half, receiving two field goals each from Wiles and Mark Tomlinson. Finding their first momentum of the game, Polo Stud Schockemohle pushed back into the lead on two field goals from Juan Gris Zavaleta and a penalty 2 conversion from Patrick Maleitzke. A high-scoring conclusion to the first half saw seven combined goals, but it was two more goals for Maleitzke that kept Polo Stud Schockemohle holding a 10-9 lead at halftime.

Segavas continued to produce scoring opportunities around goal, outshooting Polo Stud Schockemohle throughout the game and it paid dividends to begin the second half. Two goals from Joaquin Pittaluga as part of a 3-0 fourth chukka in favour of Segavas pushed them into a 12-10 lead, leaving Polo Stud Schockemohle facing their first deficit at the end of a chukka. A stagnant offense kept Polo Stud Schcokemohle from challenging Segavas in the late stages of the game, allowing the deficit to grow from two to three after goals from Wiles and John Paul Clarkin. With just one chukka standing between them and their first victory, Segavas produced a strong defensive showing to end the game, keeping Polo Stud Schockemohle off the scoreboard to complete the 15-11 victory.
