RoR Racing to Polo Challenge Results 2014

A record number of participants (68 riders/owners) entered this season’s RoR Racing to Polo Challenge held at the Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club. Retraining of Racehorses is the British horseracing’s official charity for the welfare of ponies who have retired from racing and this event is specifically for ponies that have previously raced in Great Britain and are registered with RoR.
Divided into four classes, three year old filly Maysville, owned and ridden by Ben Eeley and last raced in June this year won the three year old class, Edna a filly owned and ridden by Ben Turner took best four-year old, and Twisted Wings, owned by Alan Kent and ridden by Freddie Horne was top six year old and over.
Winner of the best five year old and Overall Champion of the day was Tiny Tittle, owned and ridden by Roddy Matthews, who was presented with the additional £1000 prize money and The Balding Trophy.
Judges included: Jenny Hall (for the vet trot up), Judith Balding (turnout), Lord Patrick Beresford and Ian Balding (confirmation) and Alan Kent, Rob Cudmore, Henry Brett, Anthony Fanshawe and Mark Tomlinson (performance).
It was a great event for both participant and spectator, with a very thoughtful addition of complimentary afternoon tea and homemade cakes.
