Royal Salute Charity Polo Cup

Royal Salute Charity Polo Cup

Casa de Campo gave its polo community a wonderful surprise: a charity polo match led by polo’s number one, Adolfo Cambiaso. He took to the field alongside La Dolfina teammates David Stirling and Juan Martin Nero, who are in the Dominican competing in the Polo Challenge. The three superstars were divided into two teams alongside distinguished players such as Ignacio Novillo Astrada, Ignacio “Cubi” Toccalino and Pancho Bensadón. Victor Vargas and Bob Jornayvaz, owners of two of the best polo organisations in the world, Lechuza and Valiente, respectively, also joined the lineup.

Cambiaso, Jornayvaz, Novillo Astrada and Toccalino played for Maserati; while Nero, Stirling, Vargas and Bensadón represented Royal Salute. The match, with its 30-goal handicap, saw the highest level of polo ever played in the Dominican Republic.

The game kicked off with a goal by the one and only Cambiaso – his first in the Dominican. Victor Vargas replied quickly – he scored both in the first and the fifth. The game was tied until the last, and neither team was able to get more than a goal advantage. While the match saw few goals, it was filled with exciting plays. Cambiaso confirmed his reputation, dominating the ball in the air and giving an all round outstanding performance. The final score was 6-6. The Polo Challenge continues February 11 with the start if the Bronze Cup, which runs through to the 27 of the month.
