Santa Barbara Polo and Racquet Club Maserati Cup
The Santa Barbara Polo and Racquet Club began its summer season with an exciting weekend of 12 goal polo.
The first match featured Antelope Polo Team with Leigh Brecheen substituting for Geoff Palmer, Patrick Uretz, Jesse Bray and Santi Trotz against Wildcat Polo Team with Ryan Gilbertson, Doug Blumenthal, Joseph Stuart, and Jason Crowder. The game started off with a quick goal by Patrick Uretz for Antelope Polo. Wildcat proved to be a strong competitor and answered with two goals in the first chukker. The first chukker ended with the score tied at 2-2. Antelope pulled ahead in the second chukker scoring two goals to bring the score to 4-3 at the end of the 2nd and maintained a one goal lead going into halftime with a score of 6-5. Antelope played hard throughout the fourth and fifth chukkers to protect their lead. Wildcat dominated the 6th chukker and won the match 13-10.
Grants Farm faced off against Cotterel/Long Beach in the second match of the day. Grants Farm began the game strong. Santi Wulff and Andy Busch each contributed 3 goals to their score in the first half putting them ahead 8-5 at the end of the 3rd chukker. Grants Farm held their lead through the 4th chukker, but was challenged by Cotterel/Long Beach in the 5th chukker closing the gap to only one goal. An exciting 6th chukker ended in a tie sending the game into overtime. Ruben Coscia won the match for Cotterel/Long Beach on a penalty 4 in the overtime chukker.
