Shanghai Tang Women’s Tournament : 2nd day

TOURNAMENT

SINGAPORE POLO CLUB

2 – 6 SEPTEMBER 2009

Singapore, Friday 4 September 2009 – Day Two of the Shanghai Tang Women’s International Polo tournament was filled with action and excitement at the Mount Pleasant grounds. The 4-chukka semi-final match between Amarula and China Blue was tied 4-4 at the end of the third chukka, with both teams playing a strong defensive strategy. The team captain for China Blue, Emma Calder of New Zealand (1-goal handicap) had an unfortunate fall from her pony and suffered a fractured collarbone, which will keep her out of action for the remainder of the tournament.  Kirsty Readhead from Australia (1-goal handicap), the team captain for The Margaritas, was asked to stand-in for Emma Calder, and with her assistance, China Blue advanced to the Silver League Final 6-4. Much credit must be given to Emma Calder as she was responsible for four of the six goals scored by China Blue, with team-mates Melissa Tiernan (-2 goal handicap) and Kirsty Readhead scoring one goal each.

The Shanghai Tang Women’s International Polo 2009 tournament continues with the second Silver League Semi-final today â€“ Friday 4 September at 5pm, featuring The Margaritas against Pink Champagne. The winning team will advance to the Silver League Final against China Blue; to be played tomorrow – Saturday 5 September.

The highlight of the tournament will be the Gold Cup match (0 to 2 goals handicap) which is scheduled on Sunday 6 September with representative teams from Singapore* and HPC England*. The Singapore Polo Club is honoured to have Mr. S Iswaran, Senior Minister of State for Trade & Industry and Education as the Guest-of-Honour at the Gold Cup match. The schedule of events also includes a fashion showcase by Shanghai Tang, featuring their 2009 Autumn/Winter collection, Kaleidoscope.
