Paisano Polo Academy defeated Head Hunters 5½-4 in the Singapore Open 2012 (8-10 goals) at the Singapore Polo Club on Sunday 9 September 2012.

 

International polo player, Lucas Lujan scored a total of 4 goals for Paisano Polo Academy; while Pablo Dorignac from Argentina and Lawrence Khong contributed four goals respectively for Head Hunters.

 

Ang Ban Tong was presented the Most Valuable Player Award; with the Best Playing Polo Pony Award presented to Mighty Mouse, owned by Singapore Polo Club member, Yeo Kuo Lee.

 

The final tournament was well attended by over 600 guests, including Guest of Honour, Ms Indranee Rajah, Member of Parliament, Tanjong Pagar GRC, who performed the traditional throw-in ceremony with the President of the Singapore Polo Club, Mr. Iqbal Jumabhoy. This prestigious tournament is a highlight on the social and sporting calendar in Singapore, with local ambassadors, dignitaries, prominent businessmen and women, socialites, invited guests and members in the audience.

 

The three-day event also featured four other teams: Tata Communications, Veuve Clicquot, Pilara and ar+d Polo Team, competing in a round-robin format for the title. Pilara (3rd Place), Veuve Clicquot (4th Place), followed by TATA Communications (5th Place) and ar+d Polo Team (6th Place) respectively.

 

Iqbal Jumabhoy, Club President of the Singapore Polo Club stated, “The Singapore Open 2012 was notable for the support of a number of new sponsors and maximum participation by our local players and highlighted by the action and excitement of the tournament. The tournament was the start of an exciting season of polo in Singapore; with the Club to host another two major events during the months of October, including our annual ladies’ international polo tournament.”
