Sir Winston Churchill Cup

Sir Winston Churchill Cup

The Semifinal of the Sir Winston Churchill Cup was as exciting as could be.

The first match saw Habtoor Polo and Bangash Polo in an intense fight. Habtoor Polo was awarded a half goal due to handicap difference, being a 9 goal team whereas Bangash is 10 goals. The match started with Habtoor Polo leaping ahead finishing the first chukker with a 3 ½ -1 advantage. Bangash regrouped and fought back in the second chukker finishing off at an almost equal 4 ½ -4. The second half saw Bangash get ahead of Habtoor Polo twice and Habtoor fighting back immediately and finishing off with a final score of 7 ½ over 7 taking Habtoor polo on to the Final of the Sir Winston Churchill Cup.

The second match was a battle between Bin Drai and Mahra Polo team. Bin Drai started off strong scoring several goal in a row and not letting Mahra get by, but they did and scored a goal in the first chukker. By half time the teams stood Bin Drai 5 – Mahra 1.

The second half saw Mahra regain some power putting several balls through the goals and closing the gap, but Raul Laplacette, or the bullet as he is called due to his black helmet not having a visor, made sure Bin Drai had the final say and the match ended with Bin Drai ahead at 7-6.

The final of the Sir Winston Churchill cup will be played tomorrow Friday the 9th at 3:30 pm between Habtoor Polo and Bin Drai Polo at Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club field 1.
