
AMANARA IS CROWNED CHAMPION OF THE TERRALPA SILVER CUP OF HIGH GOAL; CALATAGAN, WINNER IN THE LOW HANDICAP
SAN ROQUE, Saturday, August 16, 2025 – In a match full of emotion and intensity played on court 3 of Los Pinos, Amanara beat Black Bears by 12 to 9 and was crowned champion of the Terralpa High Handicap Silver Cup. In addition, Calatagan beat La Capilla by 12 to 8 and won the title in the Low Handicap. The Terralpa Silver Cup is the second stop of the 54th International Polo Tournament. The competition is divided into three polo levels: High (20-22 goals), Medium (12-14 goals) and Low Handicap (6-8 goals).
A High Handicap final in its splendor; once again, a definition in Sotogrande reaffirms why the top category is called High Handicap. There were 6 chukkers of pure power and high level of polo, which the public gathered around court number 3 of Los Pinos will hardly forget. With two of the best in the world today on the court, such as Bartolomé Castagnola -for Amanara- and Tomás Panelo -for Black Bears-, and very well complemented by their teammates, the final of the Terralpa High Handicap Silver Cup 2025 will be to remember.
At the beginning, it was Amanara who imposed conditions, but the Black Bears quickly managed to respond so as not to lose track of them on the scoreboard and achieved a 3-2 lead. But the tandem made up of Barto Castagnola and Lorenzo Chavanne guided Amanara’s team from the back of the field and was key in each instance of the match. In the second half, the scoring forcefulness of the two aforementioned players ended up collapsing the Black Bears’ hopes. Castagnola, author of 5 goals and a great figure on the field, was chosen as the best player of the final, and appeared on the scene at the key moments for Amanara to shout “champion” for the first time in a tournament of the High Handicap of Sotogrande.
For its part, court 4 of Los Pinos was the stage in which Calatagan won the Terralpa Low Handicap Silver Cup. The final 12 to 8 was the reflection of what was experienced throughout the 5 chukkers of the match, in which Ciro Urturi was the great figure. Second title in 2 years for Calatagan in the Terralpa Low Handicap Silver Cup.
As a prelude to the finals of the Terralpa High and Low Handicap Silver Cup, court 2 of Los Pinos was the scene in the morning of the final of the Citi Re Reinsurance Cup, in which Dos Lunas beat Whizmo and won the title.
After the finals, it was the turn of the awards ceremony, in which, in addition to the protagonists, Ramón Hermosilla and Marcos Nuñez, from Terralpa; María Susana Sánchez and María Emilia Sánchez, from Bionesta; Manuel Cereceda, Sports Director of the Tournament; Emilia Barone, from Ammari Fragrances; Alfonso Valdivia, Councilor for Urban Planning and Tourism of San Roque; and Mica Maffei.
Throughout the day, and naturally also after the awards ceremony, the public enjoyed the varied and attractive proposal of Last Chukker, with the Croft Twist drinks bar, food trucks, the shops inside the central pavilion and the Market that accompanies it on Fridays and Saturdays. In addition, the closing was in charge of Juan Peña, who gave a concert on the stage specially set up at Last Chukker.
