AMANARA AND DOS LUNAS ARE THE FINALISTS OF THE 22 GOAL GOLD CUP
SAN ROQUE, Wednesday, August 27, 2025 – Amanara and Dos Lunas secured a place in the definition of the High Handicap Gold Cup this Wednesday after beating Calatagan and La Dolfina – Marqués de Riscal, respectively, in the semifinals. In this way, they will face each other on Saturday for the title. The Gold Cup is the third stop of the 54th International Polo Tournament. The competition is divided into three levels: High (20-22 goals), Medium (12-14 goals) and Low Handicap (6-8 goals).
The first of the semifinals pitted Amanara against Calatagan on court 4 of Los Pinos. The recent winner of the Silver Cup Terralpa had an overwhelming start, scoring a 4-0 partial just at the beginning of the match, sustained by a very high level of Bartolomé Castagnola in attack. Calatagan gradually settled into the game and managed to stay within striking distance of the result. But in the fourth chukker there was again a great level of Amanara, who came to take a 9-5 lead. In the fifth, everything changed; and it is that Calatagan brought out his best polo shirt and took the match to a draw at 9.
But again Amanara, who had in Beltrán Laulhé the figure of the fight, managed to impose conditions and took the victory by 12 to 9.
Then, field 3 was the scene of the second semifinal, in which Dos Lunas managed to take advantage of the initial advantage by handicap – they conceded a goal – and quickly stretched the difference after a goal by Dante Castagnola. La Dolfina, Herederos del Marqués de Riscal, quickly settled down and tied it. And so it remained practically for the rest of the match. They reached the sixth chukker with Dos Lunas in front by 11 to 9, and 2 goals from Poroto Cambiaso leveled the result. But with about 1 minute left until the first bell, a goal by Dante Castagnola ended up being the decisive one in favor of Dos Lunas, who had in Martín Iturraspe the best player of the match.
On Thursday it will be the turn of the semifinals of the Low Handicap, in which Essso will face La Martina, in the first instance, and then Hartog Polo Team will do the same against 1896 Adrenalina, looking to reach the final of the tournament.
Admission to all the days of the 54th International Polo Tournament, both at Ayala Polo Club and at Ayala Los Pinos Headquarters, is free of charge. In addition, VIP Passes can be purchased for an exclusive experience throughout the event.
