Surprise win at Sotogrande as Taittinger Dos Lunas snatch the Gold Cup
Despite the fact that Las Monjitas lead all the way and seemed to have the match wrapped up, as at one stage in the third chukka the score showed a 7-1 advantage, Taittinger Dos Lunas made a sensational recovery although they only levelled 10-10 near the end of the sixth with a goal from Gonzalito Pieres. Extra time started with a 40 yard penalty which was converted again by Gonzalito who gave his new team a taste of victory at the high goal Gold Cup.
The subsidiary cup was won by Leones who defeated Broncos 11-7.
In the prize presentation Sarah Ferguson handed the Jaeger-LeCoultre Gold Cup to the winning team and amongst other prizes the Best Playing Pony to Eduardo Novillo Astradaâ€™s mare Yolanda.
Action continues at Sotogrande today with the finals of the La Martina Medium Goal Gold Cup when Scapa John Smith will face Ayala Esperanza at 12.30 PM and the Valecuatro Low Goal Gold Cup which will be played between Kia El Corzo and and L-14 at 11.00 AM
