Teams going through to the quarter finals of the King Power Gold Cup

Having played three matches each in Phase 1 of the King Power Gold Cup for the British Open Polo Championships, the teams with the most victories have gone straight to Quarter Finals:  El Remanso and Park Place, each with three wins and La Bamba de Areco and Valiente each with two wins and a losing match.

The remaining teams, Emlor, RH Polo, Murus Sanctus, Alfi Investments, Thai Polo, Monterosso, La Indiana and Talandracas, have played a further match each to try and secure a place in the Quarter Finals.  Thai Polo, Murus Sanctus and Emlor failed to go through, while five teams – Alfi Investments, La Indiana, Monterosso, RH Polo and Talandracas – have engaged in a penalty shoot-out this morning to determine the remaining Quarter Final places.

The results of the penalty shoot-out have ensured that Alfi Investments, La Indiana, RH Polo and Talandracas are the other four Quarter Finalists in the 2018 King Power Gold Cup for the British Open Polo Championship.

The subsequent Draw has determined that playing on Saturday 14th July are El Remanso v Alfi Investments and Park Place v RH Polo.  Playing on Sunday 15th July will be La Bamba de Areco v Talandracas and Valiente v La Indiana.

Roderick Vere Nicoll, Chairman of Cowdray Park Polo Club comments:  “We have seen some very good polo through the league phase, especially the match between Valiente and La Indiana, with the world’s two best players Adolfo Cambiaso and Facundo Pieres on opposing sides and a total of 31 goals scored. Full marks to our Polo Manager, Chris Bethell, and the tournament committee for the way they have scheduled the last four matches of the league, as well as the shoot-out and draw to determine who plays who in the Quarter Finals, thus keeping the British Open vibrant and competitive.”
