El Remanso Scores 19 Goals in King Power Gold Cup Victory
The 2nd day of the 2018 King Power Gold Cup saw El Remanso put forth a clinical offensive performance to defeat Thai Polo 19-8 on the Manor Farm Polo Ground at Cowdray Park Polo Club.
El Remanso dominated their opening match of the King Power Gold Cup in a statement victory as they took advantage of every opportunity presented to them. Converting an impressive 13 of 17 (76%) shots from the field and 6 of 7 (86%) from the penalty line, El Remanso showcased how well they work as a team with accurate passes and strong ball control to score goals immediately from throw ins. James Beim and Charlie Hanbury were in particularly strong form winning 10 throw ins and combining to score 13 goals between them. Failing to score a field goal in the opening half, Thai Polo fell behind early and were unable to match the efficient El Remanso offense in the loss.
Early in the game, foul trouble from Thai Polo allowed El Remanso to gain momentum, scoring four goals from the penalty line in the opening two chukkas to race out to the early 5-1 lead. In the third chukka, Thai Polo were shell-shocked by El Remanso’s attacking power and couldn’t put them under any pressure defensively as El Remanso shot a perfect 4 for 4 from the field and converted their lone penalty attempt to win the chukka 5-1. James Harper controlled the pace of the game at the back of the field for El Remanso, allowing Oliver Cudmore and Charlie Hanbury to continue the relentless attack, building a commanding 10-2 lead.
Despite holding a large lead, El Remanso continued to steamroll to victory, adding another four goals in the fourth chukka to increase their lead even further. Thai Polo finally found the scoresheet from the field, with Joaquin Pittaluga and Jaime Garcia Huidobro accounting for the goals, but the story of the game continued to be El Remanso’s efficiency from the field. Led by the eight goal performance from James Beim, El Remanso added another nine goals in the second half, finishing with an impressive 19 goals in the victory to open their King Power Gold Cup tournament.
