The London Alumni Polo Club in Uganda

The London Alumni Polo Club ventured deep in to the wild for an extraordinary polo adventure with Polo Safari’s (polosafaris.com) . In July a group of 5 Alumni members flew to Uganda where they played polo, went on safari, braved the river Nile and experienced the true pearl of Africa.

“After a beautiful drive along lake Victoria we arrived in Jinja. Jinja is a vibrant town with a strong local economy and infamous with tourists. The town would also be the home base for our 10 day adventure. On the first day of polo we were picked up in two large SUV’s and driven to the Kakira estate. The Kakira estate is the home to one of the finest sugar cane plantations and of the Kakira Nile Polo Club. The Club boasts a beautiful pitch surrounded by tropical flora and fauna, the surroundings are so impressive that it was almost hard to focus on the game. By the time our four fierce paced chukka’s were up we had certainly built up an appetite and were greeted by a exquisite lunch in a stunning club house. Here we made plans to explore different parts of the region”.

“Half way through the trip we ventured up to the Murchison park to experience a quintessential safari experience and witness the awe-inspiring Murchison falls. We stayed in the heart of the park at the luxurious 5 star Chobe Safari Lodge. The hotel was located right on the river Nile with an infinity pool and school’s of wild hippo’s grazing below. The next morning we commenced our exciting game drive with an array of wildlife, including lion,  elephant, giraffe and water buffalo to name a few. Then we took to the Nile by boat  were we were fortunate enough to witness bathing elephants, hippos, huge crocodiles, 6 different species of kingfisher and the majestic African Fish Eagle. Then as we made our way around a slight bend in the river The Murchison Falls came into sight. It’s an impressive 40 meters high and only 7 meters wide, the entire water of the river Nile flows through this gap with spectacular violence. We were astounded with how much this day brought us”.

“After our 3 days of safari we returned to Kakira for 3 more days of polo and pampering by the Kakira Nile Polo Club and the founder of Polo Safari’s, Maanan Madhvani. Uganda and what she has to offer blew our minds and left us with unforgettable memories. The polo was of the highest standard and next year we will definitely be back for more polo and to see the gorilla’s”.
