Tonkawa wins second consecutive match in Wanderers Classic

Tonkawaremains undefeated in Wanderers Classic play

Tonkawa (2-0) made it two in a row Saturday morning in the2013 14-goal Wanderers Classic by dominating Mt. Brilliant/Equestrian Law Group(0-1) in a 12-8 win.

Julian Daniels got Mt. Brilliant Equestrian Law Group on thescoreboard first but was countered by goals from Brandon Phillips and NicRoldan for Tonkawa.  The first chukkerended with Tonkawa holding on to a narrow one goal, 2-1 edge.

Phillips put Tonkawa on top, 3-1, with the opening goalof the second chukker when foul trouble came back to haunt them.  Kris Kampsen converted two penalty goals, andMt. Brilliant/ELG kept Tonkawa off of the scoreboard for the duration of theperiod.  With two chukkers played it wasall even at 3-3.

Tonkawa took control of the game in the third chukker,scoring five unanswered goals and charging out to an 8-3 halftime lead.  Roldan and Phillips opened the period byconverting single penalty shots for goals. Phillips added another goal from the field and Roldan scored his secondand third goals of the chukker to establish the five goal lead.

Roldan’s fourth goal of the morning extended the Tonkawa leadto six goals, 9-3.  Kampsen converted apenalty shot for a goal, but another goal from the field from Roldan put the Tonkawalead back at six, 10-4.   Bo Goodmanscored his first goal of the day and Kampsen tacked on another penalty goal toend the chukker.   Mt. Brilliant/ELG cut the Tonkawa lead back tofour goals, 10-6.

Daniels scored on a beautifully executed backhander toopen the fifth chukker but Tonkawa team captain Jeff Hildebrand got on thescoreboard on a well-placed shot at goal and Mt. Brilliant/ELG found themselvestrailing by four goals again, 11-7.

  Kampsen managed Mt.Brilliant/ELG’s only goal of the final chukker. Hildebrand closed out the scoring with his second goal of the game, on apenalty conversion for the 12-8 Tonkawa win.

Roldan led all scoring with six goals.  Phillips scored four times and Hildebrand wascredited with two scores on the day. Kampsen’s five goals set the pace for Faraway.  Daniels added two and Goodman chipped in agoal in the loss.

Wanderers Classic action will continue on Friday, January18 with Tonkawa (2-0) facing Equus & Company (1-0) and Mt. Brilliant/ELG(0-1) meeting Floridian Community Bank (0-2).
