Tortugas Open – Day 10

On Sunday 11/1, the tenth round (fifth and last of Zone B) of the 86th Tortugas Country Club Galicia Open presented by Visa began to be played on field 5 of Tortuguitas, in which the Emilio de Anchorena Cup is at stake.

In the match, one of the teams coming from the qualifying round, La Irenita Clinova, achieved its third victory in the tournament after beating La Aguada Daily Mail by a close 16 to 15 , a team that has not yet known victory in the AAP Triple Crown.

In a tight match, La Aguada, led by a stellar performance from Alfre Bigatti and Joaco Pittaluga’s accurate free-kick execution, proved a formidable obstacle for La Irenita. However, the winning side secured the victory thanks to Paquito de Narváez’s six goals, their best of the day, and a fine strike from Pablo Mac Donough in the final play of the game, putting them on the verge of qualifying for the 2027 Triple Crown.

The teams and the progression:

Irenita Clinova: Pablo Pieres 9 (5 goals), Paco de Narváez 8 (6), Pablo Mac Donough 10 (3) and Matías Mac Donough (h) 7 (2, one penalty). Total: 34.

La Aguada Daily Mail: Bautista Bayugar 8 (3), Alfredo Bigatti 8 (4), Ignacio Laprida 8 and Joaquín Pittaluga 8 (8, seven penalty goals). Total: 32.

Irenita Clinova: 3-1, 5-2, 6-3, 7-6, 10-8, 12-10, 13-13 and 16-15.

Judges: Guillermo Villanueva (h) and Martín Pascual. Referee: Hernán Tasso.

Second Match

Hache Polo Team, runner-up in the tournament!

On court 6, which the organizing club owns in Tortuguitas, the tenth round (fifth and last of Zone B) of the 86th Tortugas Country Club Galicia Open presented by Visa, in which the Emilio de Anchorena Cup is at stake, ended on Sunday 11/1.

The team featuring the Ulloa brothers and Panelo, La Hache Polo Team , lost 16-13 to Las Monjitas. Despite the defeat, they won Zone B of the tournament and qualified for the grand final, where they will face La Natividad La Dolfina on Saturday, November 7th , seeking revenge after their loss to Castagnola/Cambiaso in the decisive match of the 133rd Hurlingham Club Open. A great match!

In the event of a three-way tie in points between La Hache, Las Monjitas, and La Irenita, the tiebreaker was determined based on the results between the three tied teams. Goal difference favored La Hache, who finished with +3, over Las Monjitas, who finished with +1. The Mac Donough team came in third with -4.

In a match played in the rain for much of the chukkers, Las Monjitas put on a great performance thanks to Juanma Nero’s outstanding play and Rufino Bensadón’s prolific scoring, the game’s top scorer (11 goals) and, so far, the tournament’s leading scorer (39 goals). In fact, they came close to reaching the final, having twice built a five-goal lead that would have put them in contention. But La Hache didn’t give up, and despite not playing their best, they managed to close the gap and secure their place in the tournament final.
