U.S. Open Polo Championship® – Day 10

Dazos Upsets Pilot in U.S. Open Polo Championship®

Taking center stage as the lone contest in Thursday’s U.S. Open Polo Championship, hosted by the National Polo Center – Wellington (NPC), Dazos (David Farache, Dylan Rossiter, Nicolas ‘Nico’ Pieres, Santiago ‘Santi’ Torres) went head-to-head against Pilot (Curtis Pilot, Matias ‘Colo’ Gonzalez, Matias Torres Zavaleta, Facundo Pieres).

Igniting the close contest both teams came out firing, as Dazos took an early edge on goals from Torres, Nico Pieres and Rossiter. After trading goals in the second, Pilot’s Zavaleta and Facundo Pieres managed to pull Pilot even 5-all at the half. Emerging from the tents, the Pieres brothers matched each other stride-for-stride sending conversions soaring through the goal. Leading by one, Dazos broke though in the fifth chukker, putting up four unanswered with 9-goaler Pieres continuing to find success at the line. Committing ten fouls and only managing five goals on fourteen shots, Pilot was unable to rally for a comeback, as a final drive from Nico Pieres seal Dazos’ impressive upset 13-8.

Best Playing Pony was awarded to “Escriba Afortunada,” played and owned by Dylan Rossiter.
