Scone Seizes U.S. Open Polo Championship® Win
Continuing action in the U.S. Open Polo Championship at the National Polo Center – Wellington (NPC), Scone (David Paradice, Cody Ellis, Poroto Cambiaso, Tomas Panelo) went head-to-head against Tamera (Alejandro Poma, Pedro ‘Pedrinho’ Zacharias, Diego Cavanagh, Segundo Saravi).
Fresh off their victory in the USPA Gold Cup, Scone was back in the saddle and took a commanding first half lead with Ellis, Panelo and Cambiaso all reaching the scoreboard, including three-goals and two assists from Cambiaso. Containing Tamera to just two goals in the first two chukkers, Saravi hit his second from the field, but two more off the mallet of Cambiaso gave Scone a dominant 10-3 lead at the break.
Regrouping in the tent, Tamera emerged with determination putting together a five-goal unanswered run in a combined effort from all four Tamera players. Held to just three shots in the second half, Scone narrowly held onto a two-goal lead entering the sixth, but a three-goal chukker from Cambiaso including two crucial conversions ultimately awarded Scone the 13-8 victory.
Best Playing Pony was awarded to “Taita Auspiciosa,” played by Poroto Cambiaso and owned by Valiente/La Dolfina.
