WHY:    The United States Polo Association (USPA), the national governing body for the sport of polo, in conjunction with the International Polo Club Palm Beach (IPC) in Wellington, Florida, will host the U.S. Open Polo Championship Semifinals on Wednesday, April 19.  Considered to be the most prestigious polo tournament in the United States, the U.S. Open Polo Championship is the final leg of the 26-goal tournaments held during the Florida high-goal winter polo season that attracts fans and polo enthusiasts from more than 30 countries and 50 states.

Undefeated Flexjet advanced to the semifinals last week along with 2-1 record holder Valiente after bracket play concluded. In quarterfinal play, 2016 defending champions Orchard Hill bested Audi and tournament newcomers Travieso defeated Coca-Cola.

The semifinal games begin with Orchard Hill and Flexjet facing off first. Four Pieres players between the two teams will surely feature intense action with field sidelines expected to be packed. Valiente, with two 2017 26-goal tournament wins (USPA Gold Cup® and C.V. Whitney) already under their belt, will face Travieso’s well balanced team of seasoned players and young standout Alfredo Capella.

Fans can watch the four teams compete for their chance to move on to the championship final and capture the prestigious U.S. Open trophy live on uspolo.org. The semifinal games hosted at IPC are open to the public with free admission.
