USPA Silver Cup Semifinals Set

Goose Creek held on for a 9-8 win over Pony Express to clinch a berth in Thursday’s semifinals of the 2009 USPA Silver Cup at the 302 Polo Club in Aiken, South Carolina Tuesday afternoon.


 


Taking advantage of one goal by handicap, Goose Creek added to it with first chukker goals from Martin Zegers and Adam Snow while allowing a single goal from Pony Express 7-goaler Tomas Goti.   Goose Creek led 3-1.


 


Two goals from the field by Matias Magrini tied the score at 3-3 in the second chukker until Martin Zegers put Goose Creek back on top with a goal.    Maureen Brennan and Martin Zegers added single goals in the third period while holding Pony Express to a single goal from Magrini.  Goose Creek left the field at the end of the first half with a 6-4 advantage.


 


Defenses on both sides tightened in the fourth chukker with Snow and Magrini scoring single goals for their respective teams.  Goose Creek held its two goal lead, 7-5.


 


Goals from Pablo Avalos and Bob Daniels tied the score at 7-7 in the fifth period, but a closing goal from Martin Zegers gave the lead back to Goose Creek, 8-7.


 


Goose Creek struggled to take control of the game back from Pony Express, and moved ahead 0-7 on another goal from Martin Zegers.  Tomas Goti scored for Pony Express, but Goose Creek would hold on for the 9-8 win.


 


Martin Zegers led all scoring with five goals.  Adam Snow scored twice and Maureen Brennan added a single goal in the win.


 


Matias Magrini scored four goals for Pony Express.  Tomas Goti scored twice and Bob Daniels and Pablo Avalos added single goals.


 


The win catapults Goose Creek into an 11 am semifinal match with MavOffice.com on Thursday, October 15.  The day’s second semifinal will feature a rematch between Barrington and Bendabout.
