Barrington broke out of a touch-and-go game in the first half to capture a decisive 15-8 win over MavOffice.com in 2009 USA Monty Waterbury Cup play Monday morning in Aiken.

The victory kept Barrington (3-0) undefeated, and boosted it into Thursday afternoon’s semifinals.

“They’re a tough team,” said Barrington’s Tommy Biddle.  “They played us tough in the first half and then we got a few things going in the second half and got on a roll.”

Following two opening goals from Barrington 8-goaler Julio Arellano MavOffice responded with goals from tiger Kneece and Tom Uskup to tie the score at 2-2 after the opening chukker.

Arellano added two more goals in the second period while the Barrington defense held MavOffice to a single goal from Julian Daniels to take a narrow 4-3 edge going into the third period.

Goals from Kneece and Daniels had MavOffice up 5-4 in the opening minutes of the third chukker before a goal from Barrington’s Antonio Galvan knotted it again at 5-5.  Kneece scored again to give MavOffice the lead, but Biddle closed out the first half scoring with the tying goal for the 6-6 halftime score.

The second half of the contest was all Barrington as MavOffice struggled to find any offense.  Barrington put eight goals on the scoreboard while holding MavOffice scoreless for the fourth and fifth chukker.

Barb Uskup scored her second goal of the game to put Barrington on top 15-6 before MavOffice finally responded.  Kneece and Daniels scored single goals to end the game with Barrington celebrating a perfect 3-0 record in the 15-8 win.

“It was a good open game”, said Biddle of the match, “our team went very well.”

“I think we did what we needed to do,” said Arellano.  “The team worked on things that we needed to in order to meet this same team again on Thursday.”

Because of the cross bracket structure of the tournament, Barrington will meet MavOffice again on Thursday in the morning semifinals while Goose Creek (1-1) will face Pony Express (1-1) in the afternoon semifinal.

Biddle led all scoring with seven goals.  Arellano scored five times while Barb Uskup added two goals and Galvan scored a single goal in the win.

Kneece led the MavOffice team with four goals.  Julian Daniels scored three times while Tom Uskup scored once.
