La Dolfina wins the Camara

On Thursday, 11/28 at the Alfredo Lalor Venue in Pilar, the grand final of the traditional open tournament for the Chamber of Deputies Cup was played, which in 2024 celebrated 100 years of its first edition and which this time was starred by 16 teams: the six that did not achieve the ticket to the 131st HSBC Argentine Polo Open plus the ten best of the Municipality of Pilar Cup.

In the match, played on field 1, La Dolfina recovered after an adverse first chukker and with 8 goals from “Negro” Lucas Criado -the MVP of the match- and a sharp team game, they beat La Ensenada II by 15 to 11, a team in which Tommy Beresford stood out, and thus won the title, in this important tournament organized by the Argentine Polo Association.

In this way, the champion earned the right to play the Repechage against the eighth in the 2024 Ranking, to seek to be the last pre-qualified team for the 2025 Triple Crown.

A LITTLE HISTORY

The Chamber of Deputies Cup was donated in 1922 by the aforementioned legislative body, as a reward for the double feat accomplished by the Argentine team that in its first tour abroad managed to win the Open Championships of England and the United States undefeated, on its own playing fields. The cup was immediately delivered to the AAP authorities, so that it could be disputed for development purposes. This was done and for the first time this coveted trophy, in 1924, was its first winner by the remembered Santa Inés team, made up of Daniel Kearney, Carlos Land, Guillermo Brooke Taylor and Jack Kearney, who in that year won the Argentine Polo Open with that jersey. From then on, there were many relevant figures who gave the contest the category acquired, perpetuating their names both individually and collectively, as until this fortunate present.

Precisely in a contest that was born thanks to the individual and collective attributes of a team that with its double feat in England and the USA, opened the way for the leaders of the former River Plate Polo Association and the Argentine Polo Federation to smooth things over on September 14, 1922 and give way to the foundation of the Argentine Polo Association, which today proudly presents the hierarchy of its high handicap polo, which as its centerpiece has the 131st HSBC Argentine Polo Open and the beauty and spaciousness of its famous Polo Cathedral in Palermo.
