PRESS RELEASE REF WARWICKSHIRE CUP 2009

WARWICKSHIRE CUP 2009

Following a meeting of The Stewards on Wednesday 25th June 2008, Cirencester Park Polo Club’s Warwickshire Cup will be moved from 2009 onwards from its current position between The Queen’s and Gold Cup to follow immediately after The Gold Cup.

The fixture list for 2009 is to be reviewed but it is planned that the finals of the preceding 22 goal tournaments will now be played as follows: The Queen’s Cup on Sunday 14th June, The Prince of Wales the day before on Saturday 13th June, and The Gold Cup on Sunday 19th July. Cartier International Day will be a week later on Sunday 26th July and the final of The Warwickshire Cup will be on Sunday 9th August 2009. The Challenge Cup at Cowdray will be moved so that it does not conflict with the Warwickshire.

The Chairman of the Hurlingham Polo Association, Major Christopher Hanbury said; ” I am delighted with this change in the schedule. It will extend the high goal season here in England into August and it should establish further opportunity for English players to be selected now that Cirencester Polo Club have confirmed that the entry level will remain at 17-22 goals. The period available for Cowdray’s premier Gold Cup tournament has been extended by a week which I am sure will provide for the enjoyment of all.”
