History on the making, as clone of Cuartetera is sold for $800,000
Tattersall, in San Isidro, Buenos Aires, Argentina made history on Tuesday, 16th November, when Adolfo Cambiaso hosted his first horse auction and for the first time ever two clones of his best mare, Cuartetera came under the hammer.
Attended by around 1,000 people the event was an historic experience, which attracted many high goal players and polo personalities, such as Luis Lalor, President of the Argentine Polo Association, Pablo MacDonough, Miguel and Javier Novillo Astrada, Cacho and his sons Sebastian and Juan Ignacio Merlos, Carlos and Memo Gracida, Juan Martin Nero and some members of the Heguy family.
The bid for Cuartetera’s clone started at $100,000, continued to reach $700,000 and finally an increase of $100,000 bought the clone for a record $800,000 for the new owners, tennis player David Nalbandian and Ernesto Gutierrez, President of Aeropuertos Argentina 2000.
Another great success on the night was the sale of a 50% share on Dolfina Cuarteto, the two old year stallion, son of Cuartetera, which reached $380,000
The total amount of sales on the night reached $3,125,000. No doubt an historic auction!
After the auction Cambiaso said “I am very happy. It is the first time that everything like this has happened”
