Cheltenham Invitational

Summerfields School played Cheltenham College polo for the Poulton Cup on Saturday at the Cheltenham Invitational day attended by over 1,000 spectators. The match was played by Mark Lindgren , Amil Folowiyo, Tomi Ojora, and Christian Oberschneider  against Cheltenham, Charlie Callon-Hine, Izzy England, Charlotte Maddinson, and Zac Beim.

The match was fast and Summerfields started well, with Christian Oberschneider, taking the ball on an error from Cheltenham’s goal-end of the field and carrying the ball with three hits to goal for a one goal lead after three minutes in the first chukka. Cheltenham came back in the last minute with an equally impressive run, ending the first chukka 1-1.

The second chukka saw both teams go end to end, for much of the first four minutes, Cheltenham overpowered two errors and scored two goals one after the other. Oberschneider came back from the far end end again, turning the play around and making an impressive attack running the field with a man marking, and nearly scoring an impossible near side neck shot but the play was turned by Cheltenham who taking the opportunity ran the ball for a goal in an exiting climax.

The final score ended 4-1 in favour of Cheltenham in a game that was well played by both teams. Christian Oberschneider was awarded MVP. Last year Summerfields won the cup 1-0.
