Adrian Kirby’s Cortium and Iñigo Zobel’s Ayala remained undefeated in the Cartier Queen’s Cup leagues Wednesday, winning their second matches in the Guards Polo Club tournament.

An impressive rally in the last two chukkas gave Cortium their 15-12 victory over Joachim Gottschalk’s Les Lions on the Queen’s Ground at Guards.

With the first chukka tied, Cortium took the lead 5-3 in the second. Les Lions held Cortium scoreless in the third period and scored five straight goals to go ahead 8-5, then outscored Cortium again in the fourth to lead 11-7.

Rallying, Cortium outscored Les Lions four to one in the fifth chukka and scored another four in the final period while denying their opponents any goals to win the game.

In their match on James Packer’s private ground at Manor Farm on the Cowdray Park estate, Ayala dominated Amr Zedan’s Saudi Zedan to win 11-8.

Ayala, spearhead by 10-goaler Gonzalito Pieres, held their opponents to a single goal in each of the first five chukkas, building an 8-5 lead going into the sixth. Only in this last period did Saudi Zedan manage to match Ayala goal-for-goal. Patron Zobel scored three points during the match to help his team to victory.

A single league match tomorrow will see Richard Mille play Enigma at Great Trippetts Farm in West Sussex.
