Adrian Kirby’s Cortium defeated Rashid Albwardy’s Dubai 12-11 in extra time in their league match for the Guards Polo Club’s Cartier Queen’s Cup Saturday.

Dubai, spearheaded by 10-goaler Adolfo Cambiaso and playing on their own ground in Berkshire, kept the lead for three of the first five chukkas, Cortium took one and another was tied.

Then Cortium surprisingly held Dubai scoreless in the sixth period as Cortium patron Kirby equalised to push the game into a seventh chukka. Cortium’s Francisco Elizalde scored the golden goal to give Kirby’s side their victory.

Meanwhile, Prince Bahar Jefri of Brunei’s Richard Mille downed Jean-François Decaux’s La Bamba de Areco 9-7 on the Queen’s Ground at Guards.

Richard Mille, with 10-goaler Pablo MacDonough, held their opponents scoreless for two of the first four chukkas, going into the fifth period 7-2 up. La Bamba de Areco’s 10-goaler Facundo Pieres finally found his pace, scoring four goals in the last two chukkas, but it was too late to catch up.

In the third league match of the day, played at Great Trippetts Farm in West Sussex, the titleholders, Edouard Carmignac’s Talandracas, edged newcomers, Amr Zedan’s Saudi Zedan, winning 9-8.

In tomorrow’s single league game, Zacara play Sumaya at Guards Polo Club.
