Guards to host its first Charity Ladies’ Trophy

All monies raised will go The Haven, a leading breast cancer charity

Saturday 31 August is the date for the inaugural Guards Ladies’ Charity Trophy supporting The Haven. Not only will this be an opportunity for the Club’s lady players to compete against each other on The Duke’s Ground, but it will also raise valuable funds for breast cancer charity The Haven.

This charity helps people through the physical and emotional experience of breast cancer by offering a free, in-depth and personalised programme of psychological support and complementary therapies. The charity was founded by Sara Davenport, the mother of one of the Club’s playing members, Sophie Kyriazi, and Guards Polo Club is delighted that Sara will present the prizes on the day. The monies raised will go towards opening a new Haven support centre in the Wessex region.

Neil Hobday, Chief Executive of Guards Polo Club, said on announcing this new fixture: “Guards Polo Club has always been impressed by the strength, commitment and depth of its female players. Although polo is one of the few sports played on handicap alone, this event will be the ideal opportunity for our ladies to come together and raise funds for a remarkable charity that does so much essential work to support those diagnosed with breast cancer.”

As the main aim of this event is to raise funds for The Haven, Guards Polo Club is opening its doors to both members and non members to enjoy a gorgeous afternoon tea in the Duke’s Pavilion immediately after the match. This sumptuous tea will be created by Tea Vintage, who will transform our Pavilion into a haven of 1950s style and glamour. Thanks to much generous sponsorship from Vivek Rawal’s Ashbury & Bloom and Jonathan Munro Ford’s Eagle International, Guards Polo Club will be able to donate all monies from the day to The Haven. In addition, all the ladies on the field will be very elegant too, thanks to some generous shirt sponsorship from La Martina.

Tea tickets cost £20 for Guards Polo Club members and £40 for non-members (including a car pass). For more information and to book your tickets – which will be allocated on a first come first served basis – please email Louisa.Dawnay@guardspoloclub.com. Tea will be served from 3pm with the match starting at 4.15pm.
