HPA and Pony Club Polo Announce New Partnership
The HPA and Pony Club Polo are delighted to announce that the Hipwood (Under 14) and Rocksavage (Under
17) Junior HPA tournaments will now be merged into Pony Club Polo for the 2022 season onwards.
The format for these two competitions will remain unchanged, with three and four chukka matches played on
private grounds from 4th to 17th July 2022, enabling entry into other Pony Club Polo tournaments where
eligible. Hipwood and Rocksavage players (ages as at 1st January 2022) will be required to be members of the
Pony Club and must be members of the HPA with an HPA handicap allocated by an HPA Club. All Pony Club
members less than 3 goals will pay a flat rate of £50 for their HPA membership.
Teams are welcome from Pony Club Branches and Centres affiliated to polo academies, schools and HPA Clubs.
The Buckmaster (Under 19) tournament was not held in 2021 and will be discontinued.
Andrew Barlow, Chairman of the HPA Development and Coaching Committee, comments, “A vital HPA role is
to promote grassroots polo and the development of young polo players. In combining the previous Junior HPA
with Pony Club tournaments, this allows us to enhance our long term objectives of promoting talent for the
benefit of all players and the sport in the future. With generous financial support from Park Place this new
partnership enables us to focus on our structured development pathway whilst wholeheartedly supporting
and promoting Pony Club Polo”.
Charles Whittington, Chairman of Pony Club Polo, adds, “Pony Club Polo has an exciting season ahead
culminating with the Championships returning to Cowdray Park from 12th to 14th August. The HPA’s financial
support and network of licensed instructors and coaches form a key part of our renewed partnership, but
above all we are working together as organisations alongside many volunteers and supporters across the
country to provide the best framework for beginners all the way through to our best young talent.”
