James Harper – Captain of the England

England Captain
The HPA is pleased to announce the appointment of James Harper as Captain of the England
team to play Uruguay for the Coronation Cup at Guards on 23rd July.
The 7-goaler, known throughout the polo world as “Harps”, was a member of the Gold Cup
winning Thai Polo team last year and is very much looking forward to captaining the
national team for the first time. Having not been contested for two years this year’s match is
keenly anticipated and Harps commented “It is always a privilege to play for England in the
Coronation Cup and to captain the team this year is a particular honour. To play against
Uruguay, with the passion they will bring and a legend of polo in Pelon Stirling as their
captain, will be a very special occasion. They will be tough opposition but I’m confident the
England players and horses will be more than a match for them.”
The plan for this International Day of Sport is to feature a morning exhibition game followed
by the Coronation Cup match at 3.30pm. Tickets and a variety of hospitality packages will be
on sale from both the HPA and Guards Polo Club websites.
