Jean-François Decaux’s La Bamba de Areco defeated Stefano Marsaglia’s Piaget 12-9 in their league match for the Cartier Queen’s Cup at Guards Polo at Coworth Park Friday.

La Bamba de Areco, spearheaded by 10-goaler Facundo Pieres, drew first blood in the first chukka. A goal from Piaget’s Christian Laprida tied it up, but La Bamba de Areco’s Nicolas Pieres put them ahead 2-1 at the bell. They increased their lead to 5-2 in the second period with goals by Facundo Pieres, Nicolas Pieres and patron Decaux.

By halftime La Bamba went ahead 8-4 with two more goals by Facundo Pieres and a third from Englishman Max Rutledge against Piaget’s one each by Alejandro Muzzio and patron Marsaglia.

Scoring was equal 2-2 in the fourth period and 1-1 in the fifth chukka, again leaving La Bamba de Areco ahead by four goals, 11-7.

Facundo Pieres scored a single goal in the sixth chukka before Piaget’s Joaquin Pittaluga chalked up two points in a final effort that came too late.

Play in the Cartier Queen’s Cup continues tomorrow with a league match between titleholders Talandracas and Ayala while Zacara pays Salkeld.
