Chuck Pugsley’s Lazy P polo team ran out to a 6-3 halftime lead before defeating SaraBoca 11-9 in the finals of the USPA National President’s 8-goal tournament Saturday afternoon at the International Polo Club in Wellington.

SaraBoca drew first blood with goals from Gringo Colombres and Wesley Finlayson before Lazy P answered with a 40-yard penalty shot for a goal from Nick Snow. The chukker ended with SaraBoca holding a 2-1 edge over Lazy P.

Lazy P took control in the second with goals from Mario Dino and John Gobin while holding SaraBoca scoreless.   Now it was Lazy P holding a one goal lead over SaraBoca as time ran out in the period.

Two more goals from Dino and a single goal from Snow in the third chukker had Lazy P out in front by a score of 6-2.  SaraBoca picked up a single from Colombres on a penalty conversion, but trailed at the end of the first half by three goals, 6-3.

Dino opened the second half with a goal from the field, but Colombres countered with a goal for Sara Boca.  Snow closed out the chukker with a 40-yard penalty shot, and Lazy P extended its lead to four goals, 8-4.

SaraBoca rallied in the fourth chukker betting a pair of goals from both Finlayson and Colombres.  Lazy P came up with a 60-yard penalty conversion from Snow to end the period with Lazy P holding on to a fragile 9-8 advantage.

Sixth chukker goals from Dino and Snow proved to be enough for the 11-9 win as SaraBoca could come up with no more than a single goal from Ricky Bostwick to end the match

Dino and Snow scored five goals apiece for Lazy P with Gobin chipping in a goal for the victory.

Colombres scored five times for SaraBoca, and received MVP honors for his efforts.  His mare, Kumbia, was named Best Playing Pony.  Teammate Finlayson scored three goals and Bostwick added a goal in a losing effort.
