Milo Fernandez de Araujo to coach England polo team

MILO FERNANDEZ ARAUJO TO COACH ENGLAND POLO TEAM

Following the news that Javier Novillo Astrada is not available for the series of Summer Test matches, the HPA has announced the appointment of Milo Fernadez Araujo to coach the England polo team for the 2009 season.

Milo, who has a handicap of 8, is no stranger to the English Polo scene and recently reached the final of the Queens Cup with Sumaya only to be beaten in extra time.

Commenting on the appointment, HPA International Chairman John Tinsley said, “We are delighted that Milo has agreed to coach the English team for the 2009 season.  He brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience and is already familiar with a lot of the English squad having played here for a number of years.”

Fernadez Araujo has won three Argentine Opens in 1999, 2000 and 2004 all with Indios Chapaleufu II.  He reached a handicap of 10 goals in 2002 when he also won the Queens Cup with Emerging alongside the current England captain Luke Tomlinson.

Commenting on his appointment he said, “I am very excited about working with the England polo team and Hurlingham Polo Association. They are a very professional squad of players and I know their support from Audi over the last 5 years has been very influential, and is a great example to other polo playing nations. I am very much looking forward to being part of it.”

England take on Australasia at the Beaufort Polo Club this Saturday (20th June) in the first of their three summer Test Matches. Argentina provide the opposition for this year’s Cartier International on Sunday 26th July at Guards Polo Club.
