Oliver Ellis retires from Guards Polo Club

Oliver Ellis, who has been Polo Manager at Smith’s Lawn for the last 10 years, tendered his resignation earlier this week. Oli has given his role and future much thought over the last two seasons and has decided to move on to develop his own polo consultancy. He will leave the Club towards the end of the season. He decided to announce his decision now in order to allow the Club time to find a replacement during the remainder of the current season.

Oliver commented: “I have had the most amazing career in polo so far. I played the game professionally for 30 years, travelled the world and met some incredible people and have made so many friends. Over the past 10 years I have held one of the most prestigious jobs in the polo world as Polo Manager at Guards Polo Club.  I have many special memories but I just felt it was time for me to move on and concentrate on my business interests in polo elsewhere.  I would like to thank all my old and present colleagues, board members, patrons and professionals for making my time here at Guards so special.”

Neil Hobday commented: “Oli has been a great and loyal Polo Manager of the Club for over 10 years and we will sorely miss his experience, knowledge, organisational skills and calmness under pressure. He has decided that he wants to operate across a broader spectrum of polo both in the UK and internationally.  As Guards continues to develop its own international interests he will hopefully continue to be involved with the Guards Polo Club in a number of ways and I look forward to working with him in that role. We all wish Oli and Bunny the very best for the future and look forward seeing them both regularly at Smith’s Lawn.”

Jock Green-Armytage, Chairman of Guards Polo Club commented: “I regret that Oli is leaving the Club as Polo Manager, but I fully support his wish to seek a change in direction. I have known Oli personally for over 30 years and have nothing but respect for his knowledge and love of the sport and for his supreme skills of polo management, and he was a pretty handy player too! On behalf of the Board and all members of Guards we wish him all the best in the future.”
