Piaget makes it to Pedro Morrison Memorial Cup finals

Piaget in Pedro Morrison Memorial Cup
finals

By Alex Webbe

After falling to Newport/Ruby Q in the opening three
chukkers of Thursday’s round-robin in the Pedro Morrison Memorial Cup , Piaget
needed to beat Equine Law (a 4-2 winner over Newport/Ruby Q on Thursday) by two
goals to make it into Sunday’s finals, and they did just that.

Piaget charged into action from the opening throw-in,
scoring the first three goals of the match.
A penalty goal from J. J. Celis was followed by goals from the field
from Juan Bollini and Joey Casey for a 3-0 start.  Kris Kampsen (substituting for tommy Biddle)
kept Equine Law from being blanked with a single goal.  After the first chukker, Piaget held a 3-1
advantage.

Another penalty goal from Celis and a goal from the field
from Bollini had Piaget on top, 5-1 in the second.  Ruben Gracida converted a penalty shot for
Equine Law and the horn sounded with Piaget leading by three goals, 5-2.

Joaquin Panelo scored his first goal of the match for Equine
Law, but Celis countered with his third penalty goal of the match.  Piaget held the lead, 6-3.  Equine Law attempted attack after attack, but
Piaget was able to turn each rush aside.
Avery Chapman converted a penalty shot to cut the Piaget lead to just
two goals, but that was where it ended, with Piaget recording a 6-4 win and
earning a berth in Sunday’s 3 pm finals.

Wet grounds have forced the postponement of the second round-robin
of the 2012 Pedro Morrison Memorial Cup until Saturday.  With Audi, Flat Out and KIG relocated to the
Palm City Polo Club grounds in Boca Raton, Florida Saturday beginning at 1:30
pm, with the winner meeting Piaget in Sunday’s 3pm finals at the Grand
champions Polo club in Wellington.
