The revenge of the Open d’Argentine de Polo, Deauville, 1st of August

After the World Equestrian festival of Aachen and before the European Championships at Windsor, there is a sporting and equestrian event of the kind of sort that simply deserves to be seen. We’re speaking of polo, yes, but no pro-am polo which satisfies the essentials of  European demands with its extravagant elaborations. No, this will be about top-level sport as the match that is to be seen in Deauville on the 1st of August brings together the eight best polo players of the world.

The mentioned match is the revenge of the world’s most important polo tournament, the Argentinean Open, which takes place annually in Buenos Aires in December in front of 18.000 spectators.

Why exactly are we speaking of the “eight best polo players of the world”? The polo players are evaluated by their federation with a handicap from 0 to 10 (10 being the best), and at the moment there are but 11 players who can proudly call themselves a “handicap 10”, eight of which will be seen in Deauville. Those eight players really ARE the best of the best, given that they have been competing for the Argentinean Open, that crowns the world’s best polo team, over the last four years.

Ellerstina: finalist in 2005 and 2007, CHAMPION of 2008

La Dolfina: CHAMPION of 2005, 2006 and 2007, finalist in 2008

Among the eight players, there will be the greatest of all times, the “Maradona del polo” as he is called by his compatriots, handicap 10 ever since the age of 19, a spectacle himself: ADOLFO CAMBIASO.

The first event of this sort outside of Argentina, polo like you have never seen before.
