On field 7, the grand final of the 84th Tortugas Country Club Open was played on Friday 1/11, for the Emilio de Anchorena Cup.
In an unprecedented final, La Hache Polo Team beat Ellerstina UAE Yellow Rose by a tight 14-13, with a goal by Tommy Panelo – the player of the day – 18 seconds after the first bell. Hilario Ulloa’s team won its first title in AAP Triple Crown tournaments.
Two very even teams put together a great game. Although La Hache was up on the scoreboard for longer, General Rodríguez’s team was always within reach and on one occasion took the lead on the scoreboard (8-7 averaging the fifth quarter and 10-9 in the sixth). Great game for Sapo Caset – top scorer of the match with 9 and of the tournament with 37 – and Lukín Monteverde on the side of the men in black, while on the side of La Hache, a consecrating match of Tommy Panelo, very well accompanied by Polito, Fran and Hilario.
At the beginning of the last Chukka, Elizalde gave his team a 3-goal advantage, but Ellerstina, with enormous self-respect, managed to tie it at thirteen with two goals from Sapo and a huge goal from Lukín and it seemed that the final was defined as extra time. Seemed… because 18 seconds after the first bell, Tommy Panelo scored the historic goal that gave La Hache its first title.
