USPA Gold Cup champions La Dolfina beat Coca-Cola 15-13 in their first game of the U.S. Open Polo Championship at National Polo Center on Sunday 31st March.
Easter Sunday saw an exciting match between Gillian Johnston’s Coca-Cola team and the team to watch, La Dolfina. A fierce comeback in the 4th chukka had the Sunday polo goers on the edge of their seats as it looked like it could be the first upset of the tournament with Coca Cola evening the score after 4 goals, but it wasn’t to be and the seamless play between the La Dolfina players saw them pull away once again once they started to feel the heat.

Excellent defensive play by Rufino Merlos meant 9 goaler Polito Pieres was neutralised, allowing Poroto and Panelo to make some beautiful plays between them and run out the winners 15-13.
