The recent signals around Morocco upcoming 2030 strategy really stood out to me, especially the shift toward building full ecosystems in areas like Travel & Tourism, Urban Development, Clean Energy, and of course- Hosting the FIFA World Cup 2030.
Interested by polo here in the Kingdom of Morocco, I often get asked how a niche, heritage-driven sport fits into Morocco’s broader economic vision.
For me, the answer is becoming clearer than ever:
Polo isn’t just a sport- it’s an experience, a community, and a gateway into tourism, culture, and lifestyle.
It naturally touches several of the ecosystems Morocco is shaping for the next phase:
• Travel & Tourism: High-end polo events bring international visitors, media attention, and global brands.
• Urban Development & Livability: Polo clubs and equestrian spaces help create vibrant, active communities.
• Future Destinations: Polo can support the kind of experiential, luxury-driven environments Morocco aims to pioneer.
What excites me most is that polo offers something uniquely Morocco: a chance to connect tradition, nature, hospitality, and world-class sport in a way few countries can.
As the Kingdom enters this next chapter, one that mirrors the broader transformation reshaping Moroccan’s sports sector.
I genuinely believe polo can play a meaningful role- not just as a spectacle, but as part of a wider ecosystem of tourism, culture, and lifestyle development.
Polo serves not only as a sport, but as a distinguished platform for cultural exchange, diplomacy and national representation. In line with the Kingdom’s expanding global engagement and tourism strategy, Morocco are working to position polo as a symbol of refinement, hospitality and heritage.
By developing international-standard events, strengthening partnerships and elevating the sport’s visibility, Morocco aim to contribute meaningfully to the Kingdom’s broader objectives of showcasing its unique cultural identity on the world stage.
As researcher in sport management I remain committed to ensuring that our programmes and events reflect the dignity, ambition and values of the leadership we are honoured to serve.
In just a few years, we’ve seen sport in the Kingdom evolve from hosting headline events to building a full, modern ecosystem: talent pathways, world-class infrastructure, commercial innovation, and an unapologetically ambitious vision to become a global sports hub. Its not just influencing sport… it’s redefining it, and polo is now firmly part of that momentum.
What began as a groundbreaking showcase with International Mohammed VI Polo Trophy in Rabat has matured into a sport with a clear national strategy- structure, investment, institutional support that understand our outreach, and partnerships that reflect long-term thinking. The Kingdom is taking a traditionally elite, heritage discipline and reimagining it as something accessible, internationally relevant, and deeply connected to Moroccan culture.
And now, with new generation of Moroccans players residing abroad and clubs joining forces, the next stage begins. This collaboration creates a unified platform for future polo events- aligning strategy, operations, commercial development, and global reach to turn vision into reality. It’s a blueprint for what a modern sports economy looks like: empowering local capabilities, attracting world-class partners, and creating experiences that resonate far beyond the field.
The evolution is underway -and polo is becoming one of Morocco’s most exciting stories to watch.
