Resuming play in the  Queen’s Cup, King Power established an early advantage from the field on contributions from Manuel Elizalde and Nicolas Pieres. Responding with a shutout chukka in the second, Black Bears were on the attack as back-to-back efforts from Juan Martin Nero was followed by Guy Schwarzenbach to vault their team into the lead 4-3. Curbing Black Bear’s offensive momentum, it was King Power’s turn to hold their opponents to only three shots in the field, as a two-goal chukka reclaimed a narrow 5-4 advantage for King Power at the half. Following a quick goal from Pieres to kick-start the fourth, a reenergized Black Bears went on a three-goal run led by Nero in open play. Matching each other stride-for-stride in shots and penalty attempts, substitute Jeronimo de Carril led King Power from the line, as Black Bears’ Oliver Cudmore was followed by Schwarzenbach to force overtime tied 9-all. Leading King Power with four assists in the match and second in scoring with two goals, de Carril stepped up to the line for his second penalty attempt on the day and had no troubles sinking the golden goal, delivering King Power the 10-9 victory to remain undefeated in the competition.

 

Capping-off Friday’s doubleheader, UAE Polo Team were searching for their second victory of the tournament, as goals from Tomas Beresford, Lucas Monteverde Jr., and Bartolome Castagnola Jr. got UAE Polo Team off to an early 4-0 lead. Keeping the powerful offense of Scone Polo to two-goals off the mallet of Poroto Cambiaso in the second, a response from Castagnola in the field and the line held UAE Polo Team’s four goal advantage. Managing to pin Scone Polo’s sharpshooting Poroto Cambiaso to just four-goals, UAE Polo Team’s impressive first-half defense was compliment by their ability to strike at the line, going 3 for 4 to take a 7-4 lead into the break. Maintaining pressure in open play, back-to-back drives from Castagnola was complimented by a successful conversion from Beresford, as Matias Gonzalez finally broke through to become the second Scone Polo teammate to reach the scoreboard. Trailing by four to begin the fifth, back-to-back goals from Adolfo Cambiaso initiated Scone Polo’s comeback and cut their deficit in half. Following a brilliant goal from UAE Polo Team’s Sheika Maitha M. Rashid Al Maktoum, a lone Adolfo Cambiaso drive was matched by Monteverde and Maktoum’s second of the chukka to seal the victory for UAE Polo Team 14-9.
