Continuing league play in the Queen’s Cup, a closely contested first half between Marques de Riscal and Clinova kicked-off with the two teams trading goals in the first. Searching for their first victory of the tournament, Marques de Riscal utilized their opportunities from the field on a balanced effort from Alejandro Aznar, Guillermo Caset, and Santiago Cernadas. Held to just two shots in the first half, Clinova’s Jeronimo de Carril struck twice at the line, with Marques de Riscal taking a narrow 5-4 advantage at the break. Swapping scores once more to open the second half, de Carril hit his third conversion of the match, as Chris Mackenzie added his name to the scoreboard for Marques de Riscal on back-to-back drives. Shutting Clinova out in the fifth, del Carril kept Clinova within striking distance, but Marques de Riscal’s ability to find space for all their players to contribute, including a 5-goal performance from Caset allowed the team in red to capture the 11-9 win.
Concluding Saturday’s doubleheader at The Prince’s Ground, Monterosso established an early lead with David Stirling and Ignacio Toccalino striking from the field. Following just a single goal off the mallet of substitute Lucas James in the first, Facundo Pieres began to pick up the pace contributing three goals, including two in open play, lifting Park Place to a slim 5-4 lead at the horn. Following a low-scoring first half with seventeen combined shots from the field, both teams utilized the opportunity for offense at the penalty line. Matching each other stride-for-stride, Toccalino led the charge for Monterosso, as Pieres went 2 for 2 to maintain Park Place’s one goal advantage. Outscoring Monterosso in the fifth, Matt Perry hit his third of the game, as Park Place managed to keep Monterosso’s young sharpshooter Lucas Criado Jr. off the scoreboard until the sixth chukka. Wrapping up the match with his seventh goal on the day, Pieres’ final drive officially eliminated Monterosso’s hope for a late comeback, as Park Place earned their second consecutive victory 12-10.
