Goose Creek Sneaks Past Bendabout

Bendabout (1-1) took an early lead on the strength of two first chukker goals from team captain Gillian Johnston, but couldn’t hold on as it lost a heart breaker to Goose Creek, 9-8, in the final period of play Thursday afternoon in USPA Silver Cup action at the 302 Polo Club in Aiken, South Carolina.


Bendabout added two goals to its total in the second chukker on goals from Hector Galindo and Owen Rinehart while holding Goose Creek (1-0) scoreless for the second consecutive period.  The 19-goal Goose Creek team did, however, receive one goal by handicap from 20-goal Bendabout.


Goose Creek tightened its defense in the third period, holding Bendabout scoreless while taking advantage of penalties.  Martin Zegers converted two penalty shots, cutting the Bendabout lead to a single goal at halftime, 4-3.


Johnston opened the scoring in the fourth chukker, but was answered by a goal from the field from Martin Zegers and a penalty conversion from Cote Zegers that tied it at 5-5.  Rinehart scored to give the lead back to Bendabout until Martin Zegers ended the chukker with a tying goal for Goose Creek, 6-6.


Johnston added her fourth goal of the game in the fifth period, but was countered when Adam Snow converted a Penalty 3 to keep it knotted at 7-7 to end the chukker.


Whistle Uys gave Bendabout the lead again in the sixth chukker but Snow responded with two consecutive goals that tied and then won the contest for Goose Creek.


Martin Zegers led Goose Creek with four goals.  Snow scored three times and Cote Zegers accounted for one goal.  Goose Creek received one goal by handicap in the win.


Johnston led Bendabout with four goals.  Rinehart scored twice and Galindo and Uys added single goals.


Silver Cup action will continue on Saturday, October 10 at 4 pm when MavOffice.com (0-0) meets Pony Express (0-1).
